How to Create Cool Escapes in Your Kids' Rooms!

If winter’s cold has got you down and you’re battling a bad case of cabin fever, there is nothing like a little home improvement project to cure that drab cold weather disease. And, we all know that having cabin fever is bad enough; but, if you’ve got children, you might as well multiply the boredom blues by the number of children you have!

This winter, kick cabin fever for the whole family by getting super creative in your kids’ rooms! We’ve picked five crazy cool home renovation projects that will have your kids begging to be sent to their rooms!

1. A Bountiful Bookcase – If you’ve got empty wall space in your kids’ rooms, consider filling it in a “fun-ctional” way! These customized book cases not only will hold an abundance of books, but they are also incredible pieces of art! Whether your child is a history buff or more of the outdoorsy type, these United States of America and tree-shaped bookcases are perfectly cool and “fun-ctional” ways to store their books.

2. A Bedroom with a View – What little prince or princess wouldn’t love to sleep in their own lofty escape each night? This ultra-cool, beachy design may even have mom and dad crashing the kids’ rooms for a little relaxation! Don’t think you have to stop with this beachy theme. You could create a lofty treehouse, majestic castle or sports-inspired space to really have your kids dreaming! Take their favorite colors, interests or hobbies and make them happen in your own home!

3. An Indoor Rock-Climbing Wall – Are those creative juices starting to flow or are your cramped-up kids still driving you up the walls? Flip the tables and actually allow your kids to climb up the walls by installing a miniature rock-climbing wall in their room! This one leads to a secret playroom, but your home doesn’t have that kind of hidden play space; the climbing wall alone is sure to make any kid’s room a little more adventurous!

4. An Out-of-this-World Design – What is more adventurous than traveling to another galaxy? Go intergalactic in your kids’ rooms by creating a solar system on the ceiling! Paint the ceiling the colors of the night sky and add some glow-in-the-dark stars for a great start. Get really out of this world by adding in all of the planets! This design is sensational… and educational!

5. Creative Cumulus Clouds – If you love the cool ideas in some of these kid spaces, but aren’t sure that one cold winter is enough time for you to recreate them in your own home, you can still keep your head in the clouds with a DIY cloud light that is sure to add fun to your kids’ bedrooms. You can create cloudy skies in your home by covering paper lanterns with cotton batting. Add some LED lights for an even more whimsical effect!

Taking on even one of these creative projects during the winter is a great way to rid you and your kids of the cabin fever that can accompany cold weather. Creating a cool space in your kids’ rooms will also allow for some extra family bonding time in the process!
