As a Pittsburgh native, John’s family was involved with the steel industry. His grandfather started a small steel processing company in the 70’s that grew to service local, national, and international steel manufacturers and is still in operation today. After graduating from Moon High School, John attended The University of South Carolina’s Darla Moore School of Business and obtained degrees in Marketing and Finance.  During college, he worked as a server at a small franchised fondue restaurant. Having his grandfather’s entrepreneurial spirit and love for the restaurant’s unique concept, John opened The Pittsburgh Melting Pot in 2004 in historical Station Square where he acted as the proprietor for 10 successful year. After selling the restaurant he decided to pursue something else he was passionate about, real estate.

With a business background & time spent in the hospitality industry, John is a dynamic Realtor that strives to provide an excellent experience for all clients through stellar service, attention to detail, availability, and local market knowledge. He enjoys working with numbers and is quick to provide data to help in the decision-making process when a client is looking to buy or sell.  Having worked with numerous families & individuals relocating to the area he focuses on being efficient and effective when acclimating clients with the market. Whether it is a move across town, the country or from overseas, special attention is always paid toward the unique needs and requirements of each client.

John also brings construction knowledge to the table having completely renovated his last home, flipped a property, and continually working on his current residence. Drawing upon this experience, he can point out elements with a property that may be of concern for a buyer or seller prior to purchase or sale. He is also able to help buyers see past cosmetic issues or envision how a property could look with renovations. When assisting sellers, his focus is always on value and ROI with any improvements that may help reduce time on market, increase sale price, or ideally both.

In 2015 John joined Realtor, Michael Reed, to form the Reed & Shutey Team to better serve clients by taking advantage of synergies found when agents work together. Since forming, The Reed & Shutey Teams’ commitment to clients and innovative approach provided rapid growth and enabled it to become ranked on local and national levels.  In 2019 John and Michael partnered with Realtor, Joe Yost, to form The RSY Team with the goal of becoming the premier real estate team in Pittsburgh.  That same year The RSY Team ranked #1 in the West Penn Multi-list in total sales volume and transactions.

On the rare occasion when John isn’t assisting a client or talking on the phone, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two sons. His hobbies include home improvements, golfing, autocross, and operating rc vehicles. John’s goal with each client is to develop a relationship that will last beyond closing resulting from care provided during and after the transaction.
