Love or Lust? 10 Ways to Know a House Is the One

Feeling like you’ve been struck by Cupid? Think you could even be falling head over heels? Ready to utter that four-letter word you’ve been holding onto for what seems like an eternity? When you find the perfect match, you might also find yourself saying and doing some things that you’re not used to.

Of course, we’re talking about falling in love with a home and taking the ultimate step toward commitment by buying it! In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we’ve compiled a list of ways to know if you’ve found love or merely lust with a home.

Here are 10 ways to determine if a house is “the one” when you’re searching for a new home:

1. You feel an instant attraction. You’re smitten from the time you first see a home online to the time you pull into the driveway. If you can’t help but want to enter a home, you could be on the right track toward finding the perfect match.

2. You feel at home when you’re together. When instant attraction turns to instantly comfortable, you’ve got to recognize that something is right. In this case, feeling like you can call a house you’re simply looking at “home,” is a very big deal.

3. You realize you’ve found everything you need. It is common for buyers to create a list of “needs” and “wants.” If a home meets all your “needs,” it could be the right one for you.

4. It even has things you really want. Listen, we know that granite countertops and a finished basement are not considered necessities for everyone. But if a home that you’re looking at happens to have one or both of those extras, it is OK to go ahead and let yourself fall a bit.

5. You defend what others may see as flaws. Just want the world to see a new home the way you do? If you find yourself painting a perfect picture of a home, despite any small maintenance issues or other minor flaws, you might be hooked!

6. You want to move in together. This might seem like the most sudden hint, but if you walk into a home and immediately begin to envision where you might put your things, it could be the perfect place for you.

7. You’re ready to make it FB official. When you feel like you’re ready to tell the world or at least snap and share a few selfies with your closest group of friends and followers on social media, you could be falling fast for a home.

8. Even your friends and family approve. Telling your friends and family members about a new home is one thing, but gaining their approval can take it to an entirely different level. When you’re ready for your parents and friends to see a new home, things could be getting serious.

9. You don’t want to see other homes. If you begin to think exclusively about a home that you’ve seen, and you are less than inspired to explore other options, you might have found the home that is right for you.

10. It just feels right. When a new home checks all the boxes, that is it has everything you need and probably some of those wants—plus it falls right into your price range—you might just feel so good about it that you’ll simply know it is the right one for you.
If you’ve fallen in love with a home, don’t wait to take the next step toward making it your own. On this Valentine’s Day—or any other day for that matter—you don’t want to miss out on true love when you find the one!
