How To Stay Busy in a Small Space

News of the COVID-19 is everywhere, and many people are doing their best to try to stay healthy and help slow the virus’s spread. Now that social distancing, working remotely and self-quarantining are the new normal, things might be getting a little boring around the house.  If you are continuing to be stuck inside for a while, you might as well make the most of it. Here’s how to stay busy, entertained, and productive at home, even if you are living in a small space.

Self Care

Self-care looks different for everyone, but during this time in quarantine, make sure you are taking care of yourself! Whether that is reading a book, taking a cat nap, or participating in an online workout class there are so many ways to self-care at home.  Taking a break from watching the news or scrolling through social media can also be beneficial. This really helps distance yourself from what’s going on and avoid getting overwhelmed. When you’re spending time doing another activity try and unwind and take the time for yourself!

Use Technology

Now that you finally have time you can watch the Netflix show your friend recommended or maybe pick up a new online skill such as coding or photoshop.  There are so many resources online that are helpful and will keep you entertained during quarantine.

Home Maintenance

Start with home projects you’ve been meaning to get to, like small repairs or organizing a junk drawer, closet, basement, attic or garage. Try going through your fridge, pantry and cabinets, getting rid of anything expired, wiping down the shelves and reorganizing.  Going room by room is a good approach, or you could try focusing on a specific method, like dusting, vacuuming or washing.

So you don’t start to feel cooped up, head outside to clean your home’s exterior. Other outside activities include sweeping your porch and/or walkways and prepping your lawn for the spring by raking your yard.

Connect With Others

Just because you’re staying home doesn’t mean you have to feel lonely. You can use this time to connect with people. Call or video chat with family or friends, or simply text or instant message someone to check-in. Another option is hosting a Zoom happy hour with friends and co-workers, having dinner over facetime or enjoying a virtual game night! From Monopoly, the classic family game night staple, to Heads Up, the mobile game app, both physical and virtual games offer you fun options to play over video calls or with your family!

Finally, you have a few new ideas on how to stay busy at home, you can fill your days with various activities.  Whether that is meditating, reading a good book or getting your home in order, there are so many ways to stay home and stay safe, without being bored!
